Founded in 1962, this for-profit seaweed producers co-operative’s vision is to co-create sustainable aquaculture for all Belizeans.

Belizean seaweed farmers are a vibrant multi-cultural people and leaders in environmental stewardship.  They are focused on innovative solutions to combat and keep ahead of manmade calamities.

This is seen in the people who from generation to generation have passed down sustainable wild and farmed seaweed practices, from the Belize Barrier Reef. 

Belizeans are collaborating and co-creating local livelihoods through multi-stakeholder co-operatives, and engaged in learning, training and commercialization of local seaweed aquaculture commodities.

This process of seaweed cultivation puts Belize at the forefront , pioneering climate resilient species.  Such examples include the non-invasive Eucheuma cottonii (Kappahycus alvarezii), which is a fast grow warm water resilient, and more easily transportable form.
