Our vision is to foster the value-added commercialization of high quality, world-class Belizean seaweed produced for the nutraceutial sector.
Seaweed matters globally for food, dairy, cosmetics, drugs, medical, nutrition, fertilizers, industrial, bio-engineers, paper and rubber products, and energy. Global warming, caused by increased CO2 levels, makes the oceans warmer and more acidic, which affects seaweed production and its global supply chain.
Three elements make the Belizean barrier reef unique in the Caribbean: as the world’s 2nd largest reef system; its pristine waters protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site; and the recent the Belizean government $364M debt-to-nature-swap with The Nature Conservancy. This ground-breaking financial transaction ensures continued protection of these precious waters with an endowment and a conservation fund financing protection, conservation and ocean management commitments for the next 2 decades.
